“From I can’t to….I did!”
Quilting adventures began after seeing a beautiful “Trip Around the World” quilt made by my sister-in-law, Michelle. On the spot, I became obsessed with the quilting world and all the wonderful things it had to offer. I had the desire to attempt a project on my own; however, was very intimidated by the challenge and eventually decided to begin with some classes. After attending just one, I was instantly smitten. Even then, though fear and doubt tried to set in, I wouldn’t let it and I wanted to branch out.
A very dear friend who has since passed away, owned a quilt shop in town where you can imagine I spent lots of time. After a couple of months, I shared a wish with her; the wish being that I could design, piece and hand appliqué my own original quilt, but also telling her “I can’t hand appliqué!” She said, “Take my hands and look me straight in my eyes.” I did as she asked and even at this moment, I can still hear her saying, “Patti, YOU can do anything you put your mind to!
I have lived by my friend, Barbara’s advice and it has been my passion since 1989, having created 100+ colorful quilts and having the most fabulous opportunities to teach all over the world including England, France, New Zealand, Africa, the Netherlands, Germany, a Caribbean cruise, a Mediterranean cruise and an Alaska cruise as well as quilt guilds, fabric shops, and private groups.
Don’t let your dreams go by the wayside. Continue in your quest to be the best you can possibly be. Sign up for my classes or come to see some of my quilts showing my way “From I can’t to… I did!”. I hope to see you at the Nadelwelt in Karlsruhe, Germany. June 10-12, 2016.
